Provinces yet to establish procurement committees must do so: Bole

By JOE GURINA

THE chief executive officer of the National Procurement Commission Simon Bole has urged provincial governments and district administrations that are yet to establish their procurement committees to do so.

He said this is a requirement set by the national government that they have to abide or lose their privileges in procuring projects.

“If they delay, processes will be delayed particularly at this time of the year leading into next year, there will be many projects coming up,’’ he said.

Mr Bole said if there are committees already approved “they have to contact us through writing so that the board can approve and delegate board powers.’’

“This is very important, mostly around this time of the year, projects will come on and if you are yet to establish a board, you will be left out,’’ he added.

Mr Bole said four provinces including Enga, Jiwaka, Gulf and AROB are yet to establish their procurement committees apart from the 18 provinces that have successfully established their procurement committees and recognized by the board.

He said seven provinces are yet to officially swear-in their procurement committees after been established and recognized by the board. The provinces include Oro, New Ireland, East New Britain, West Sepik, Madang, Hela, and Western Highlands.

Meanwhile, Bole said, the board has the overriding powers to do “blanket approval” on appointments that are changed just before the swearing-in ceremony.

He made this statement at the official swearing-in of the East Sepik provincial government procurement committees that had late changes to the appointments on the committee.

NPC board chairman warned provinces and the NPC office to advice accordingly for any late changes before the swearing-in.
