PUBLIC Servants throughout the country were told to recommit and serve the country to deliver quality outputs.
Speaking ahead of the Public Service Dedication Service (PSDS) which is scheduled to be held in Port Moresby tomorrow, January 10 2025, Public Service Minister Joe Sungi urged all public servants to recommit themselves to their responsibilities.
He said the PSDS must be observed by all public servants to ensure they recommit and rededicate themselves to their core responsibilities.
The theme of this year’s dedication service is ‘year of restoration in the Public Service’.
Minister Sungi further calls on all public servants to get prepared in this significant event to set the tone right to kickstart the new year 2025.
“This is a direction from the Prime Minister James Marape to all public servants to stop work on Friday 10th January, 2025 for the event and reflect back on the past 50 years and also look ahead with what we are going to do in the next 50 years starting this year,” he said.
Minister Sungi reiterated that the PSDS 2025 is not just an event but a call for public servants to rededicate and commit themselves to serve the nation with excellence.
He said it (SPDS) serves as an opportunity to inspire a shared vision of restoration, unity and commitment, reaffirming the government’s dedication to uphold its required standards and core values in the public sector.
“We call on all the respective departmental heads, provincial administrators and all agency heads throughout the country to make sure they put in place the performance assessment system to ensure officers are rewarded and/or promoted based on performance and merit,” Minister Sungi said.
He further urged all provincial administrators, district administrators, LLG managers, health administrators, principals, headmasters and teachers of all schools to set higher goals while working towards this year’s independence.
Minister Sungi said the theme ‘Year of Restoration in the Public Service’ signifies a transformative journey inspired by Leviticus 25:10.
