THE country’s 9th public service dedication service is scheduled to be held this Friday, January 10, 2025.

Under the theme “Year of Restoration in the Public Service”, the event aims to remind public servants to renew their commitment to serving the people of Papua New Guinea with excellence and integrity.

The theme is chosen to recognize the significance of year 2025 and to remind public servants of their responsibilities in their respective areas.

In a press conference today, Minister for Community Development and Religion, Hon. Jason Peter highlighted the significance of the event.

“It’s a dedication that reminds us to focus from the national department to provinces and districts that we have a duty to play in delivering services to the country,” Minister Peter said.

“We (public servants) need to rededicate ourselves to carry out our duties.”

From this month (January), public servants have been encouraged to do a general clean-up of their offices, homes, and workstations.

This initiative will prepare them mentally to work towards September 16 to celebrate the upcoming Golden Jubilee.

Public Service Minister, Hon. Joe Sungi, emphasized the importance of public servants stating: “We, the public servants, are the missionaries of the government of Papua New Guinea. We are the faces of the government wherever we are, whether we are community health workers or teachers serving in the remotest parts of PNG.”

Minister Sungi urged public servants to reflect and appreciate what has transpired for the last 50 years and look forward to how they will contribute to PNG in the coming years.

He encouraged all public servants in Port Moresby to attend the dedication service while those in other locations can join via online broadcasts as important announcements will be made by Prime Minister James Marape.

The Department for Community Development and Religion will co-host the dedication service with the Department of Personnel Management and the Department of Prime Minister & National Executive Council.
