Teaching Service Commission (TSC) acting chairman Maini Mike Ugaia says responsible agencies must pay teachers’ leave fares.

He says there are more than 530 teachers in the National Capital District (NCD) whose leave fares have yet to be paid.

“The time for vacation has lapsed and teachers are looking forward to the resumption,” Mr Ugaia said.

“I call on the responsible agencies to pay teachers’ leave fare in the first term and it too be paid directly into their personal account.

“It is their rightful entitlement and they must be paid.”

He added that teachers who were appointed through a gazetted position should be prioritised.

He said the Provincial Education Board would ensure that these teachers take up the post as per the confirmation gazette.

“Any teachers who may have missed out on the appointment are to immediately report to the TSC office in the province for assistance

“Do not wait until February. It has to be soon so that we can sort it out so that you can be back in the classroom,” Mr Ugaia said.
