RIGO MP Lekwa Gure and his district management team visited the National Youth Development Authority office to discuss partnership and alignment on youth program interventions in the district.
The district envisages having sustainable youth programs to cater for its “ever increasing’ youth population bulge so it is fitting that its programs take cue from the national youth policy.
The local MP is determined to see that sustainable referral pathways are established for his youths, who couldn’t make it to tertiary institutions, to be given a second chance in life. To realise this vision, partnership with the National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) is critical to widen the scope of activities.
“We have failed to provide ample opportunities for youths in the mainstream development arena, our education systems are not creating adequate skills training at the learning stage for youths to be equipped for industrial employment, hence we see a lot of school leavers in urban areas,” Mr Gure said.
He emphasized three key domains determining the behaviour of youths today; parenting, technology, and economy. Youths need to be guided well in these domains so they grow up with decent moral behaviours despite the emergence of changing technology.
“The youth potential needs to be properly harnessed and coordinated so that they are empowered to start a self-sustaining life at the early age.”
During his term in office, he wants to create a better platform for youths of Rigo to be self-empowered through agriculture and fisheries, hence invites NYDA to partner and support its initiatives in line with the National Youth Policy implementation.
NYDA Director General, Joe Itaki expressed sincere appreciation to the Member for making time available to dialogue and structure viable youth programs in the District.
He commended Mr Gure for having the vision to empower youths and women of Rigo through agriculture activities, which has been the backbone of our societies for many years.
