THE people of East and West Sepik provinces have greatly appreciated the leaders from other provinces in the journey of late Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare during the formative years.
Speaking on behalf of the Sepik people during the State Funeral Service at the Parliament House on Thursday, East Sepik Governor Allan Bird said they would like to thank everyone who had a hand in Grand Chief’s journey in his leadership.
This included the Tolais, the Morobe and Madang people in his formative years and their customary values he learned and adopted.
Governor Bird also conveyed his people’s sincere gratitude to eveyone else who added to the wisdom of the great man over the formative years of his life.
“We have just witnessed the passing of the great light out of this world and this brings us great sorrow.
“It should also bring us ethusiasm to meet the challenges we face because as the children, we are suppose to do better than the parents,” the governor said.
He said Somare and the team of founding fathers did a tremendous job in uniting the teritory of Papua and New Guinea from different colonial adminstrations including Australia and Germany.
“We still have a race to run because he led a great team of men and women into united PNG.”
The Governor said they did an amazing job to bring united Papua New Guinea into independence.
He said Sepik people recognise all the founding leaders who have worked with and elevated the great Sana of Papua New Guinea to the greatness that this country now bestows upon him.
