One of Papua New Guinea’s oldest statesmen, Sir Yano Belo, and his son Kina Belo are attending the launch of the new K100 banknote today at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby, hosted by the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG).

The Belos were seated at the front alongside CPL Group representative Ajay Patel, as they awaited the arrival of distinguished guests, including Prime Minister James Marape and BPNG Governor Elizabeth Genia.

The newly launched K100 banknote features prominent national symbols, including the image of late Sir Julius Chan, a New Ireland shark caller, a Kina shell necklace from the Highlands Region, and a Toea shell armband from Central Province—reflecting Papua New Guinea’s rich cultural diversity and historical legacy.

The new K100 banknote is effective immediately and will be recognized as legal tender throughout Papua New Guinea.

Guests and stakeholders from key government institutions across the country are present to witness the officiating of this significant national milestone.
