AS Papua New Guinea celebrates its 49th Independence anniversary, Hon. Francis Kikin Siune, MP for Kerowagi District and Chairman of the Kerowagi District Development Authority (KDDA), has extended his warm greetings to the people of Kerowagi, urging them to reflect on the nation’s journey and renew their commitment to building a better future.
In his Independence message to the district, Siune stressed the importance of citizens playing a key role in the district’s development, acknowledging the unique privilege of witnessing this historic celebration.
“We are privileged to be alive to witness the 49th Independence celebrations. There are generations before us, and there will be generations after us,” he said.
“We could learn from the past and build a better Kerowagi for our future generations,” he said.
He reminded the people of Kerowagi that personal management is the foundation of a thriving community.
“If we can manage our personal lives well, then we can manage our family, community, and the society we live in,” he stated.
Siune expressed pride in the ongoing development projects supported by the KDDA, which are transforming the district and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. “Through the implementation of various infrastructure projects, such as road upgrades and health center improvements, we are enhancing connectivity and access to essential services for our communities,” he noted.
A notable achievement is the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KDDA and the Simbu Provincial Health Authority (SIPHA), aimed at improving healthcare in Kerowagi.
“If we build a healthier population, it will enhance a wealthy society,”Siune said.
He emphasized that development extends beyond infrastructure to include changing mindsets and fostering self-reliance.
Siune also celebrated the district’s growing recognition on the national stage through the National Cultural Commission, which showcases Kerowagi’s rich arts and cultural heritage. “We have created value by initiating our district into the National Cultural Commission. That means our showcase of arts and cultural exposure to the national and international arena is possible,” he said.
As the district commemorates Independence Day, Siune called the people of Kerowagi to embrace the values of unity, hard work, and resilience.
He urged them to take pride in their cultural heritage, preserve it for future generations, and work together to create a brighter future for Kerowagi and Papua New Guinea.
“Let us celebrate this Independence Day with renewed strength and determination. Let us commit ourselves to the ideals of freedom, justice, and progress that our forefathers fought for. And let us work hand in hand to create a brighter future for our beloved Kerowagi District and our great nation, Papua New Guinea,” Siune added.
