Sixty-two suspects arrested for misbehaving during the Christmas & New Year eve, says PPC South Fly

POLICE have arrested 62 suspects comprised of six females for misbehaving during the Christmas and New Year eve in the South Fly Police Command in the Western Province.  

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for South Fly Command, Superintendent, Gideon Kauke has confirmed that of the 62 suspects arrested, six were females but they were released on K500.00 police bail each whilst ten suspects were also released after the new year due to lack of evidence.

Mr Kauke said the other suspects are still in police custody awaiting Court appearances. He said those sixty suspects were arrested for minor cases whilst two on serious crimes.

Superintendent Kauke said that despite minor alcohol related incidents reported, the celebration in the South Fly Command was quiet and peaceful one. He said those 62 suspects involved in the minor incidents were arrested and locked up in the police cell.

Mr Kauke commended his members for delivering a successful Christmas and new year operations whilst maintaining their normal policing duties in their respective areas of operations as well. The policemen and policewomen in the command have maintained self-disciplined and conducted themselves well and responsively during the Christmas eve.

“We have prepared well for the operations and the policemen and policewomen have been deployed 24 hours a day and night, so the Christmas and new year was celebrated well.

“I have told all members to be disciplined and professional whilst conducting their mandated duties.  

“I thank and appreciate the public for their cooperation and adhering to the police instructions,” Mr Kauke said. Mr Kauke also acknowledged the South Fly Provincial Government, South Fly District Development Authority (DDA), Chines’ business houses and Town Mayor and all leaders from the South Fly for their timely assistance during the operations.

He also appreciated the support from the members of the PNG Defense Force, Customs, and the National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority (NAQIA) for working closely with the police and successfully celebrating the Christmas and new year in the command.
