Sohe to relocate district headquarter to Kokoda

SOHE District in Oro will relocate its District Headquarter from Popondetta Town to Kokoda as part of a major development plan to revive Kokoda Station, Sohe MP Henry Johns Amuli says.

Mr Amuli who is the Minister for Commerce and Industry said these during a welcome reception to Kokoda Station recently with his wife Wilma Amuli to announce a number of impact projects for the Sohe District.

Minister Amuli said the new district office would be a three-story building that would house the district administration and other important services such as Bank and ATMs.

“Popondetta Urban is now a new electorate and we cannot have our district headquarter there. It is only fitting that we move our district headquarter to Kokoda sub-station and work on the building will start next year 2023,” Minister Amuli said.

He said sealing of the Kokoda Station roads will also start next year.

“Contract documents for the road sealing are already being prepared by the Works Department and we will have our Kokoda Station roads all sealed.”

Minister Amuli said a number of projects were already being delivered to revive the Kokoda Station and that includes a new District Court House, refurbishment of the Kokoda Police Station and the old district office, a new two-story council chamber among others.

He said Kokoda station water supply project will also be work on soon as funding of K300,000 was already paid to a local contractor to start work.

“One of the issues that our public servants are asking is housing. They need house to reside and work at Kokoda when we relocate our office so we are looking at a housing scheme for our public servants in the district as well,” Minister Amuli said.

He urged the locals to also change their mentality and attitude to embrace the change that is happening.

“We are planning for big change to happen in Kokoda and it is also very important that you people must embrace the change and take care of the services and amenities that will be built here.”

The Minister also took the opportunity to thank and acknowledge his supporter and the people of Kokoda and Sohe for giving him mandate as their Member for a second team.
