SOJITZ Corporation has introduced an innovative all-weather cold mix product designed to assist road maintenance teams and contractors in repairing pothole-ridden roads across the city, even in wet conditions.
The product – “Road Plaster K” – made from soft asphalt and special fibre materials, hardens rapidly upon contact with water, allowing quick and effective road repairs.
During a demonstration at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Sojitz’s Director and General Manager in Port Moresby, Hiroyuki Maeda, and his team showcased how the product can be applied directly to damaged road surfaces.
Mr. Maeda said the Road Plaster K is particularly useful in high-traffic urban areas where efficient and durable repairs are essential.
The material enables traffic to resume immediately after application, eliminating the need to close roads for drying or curing.
The product boasts excellent workability, durability, and crack resistance, performing well in wet conditions and maintaining its integrity over time. For application, workers simply clean the road surface, apply the product, sprinkle water, and compact it to complete the repair.
Prime Minister Hon. James Marape and Hon. Sam Basil Jr. attended the demonstration alongside officials from the Works Department and other experts.
Prime Minister Marape commended the Japanese company for introducing the product, noting the importance of quality assurance by the Works Department and other stakeholders.
He noted Japan’s strong reputation for quality products and expressed hope that road contractors will adopt Road Plaster K to improve the city’s roads.
