HEALTH Minister, Jelta Wong has commended South Bougainville for being the first district in the country to submit a full and detailed acquittal of the K2 million Covid-19 funds.

In a small but significant occasion last Friday (June 4), Member for South Bougainville and Information Communication (ICT) Minister Timothy Masiu presented the acquittal to Minister Wong.

Minister Wong said K2 million was allocated to all 89 districts by the national government and it was pleasing to see the far-flung South Bougainville district acquit on the use of the funds.

Minister Wong has urged other districts in the country to follow suit.

Minister Masiu thanked the Government for the support which he said was put into needy areas to improve health facilities in the district.

Minister Masiu said the K2 million through a trust account, was used to help out in preparations for a possible breakout in the district due to the district having an international sea border.

Three boats were purchased and emphasis was put on border surveillance patrols by Buin police including rations.

Improvements made to health facilities include improved wards at the Buin health centre, converting the TB ward into an isolation centre, land identified to build a proper isolation centre and refurbished Pathology lab that will accommodate the Gene-expert machine.

Mr Masiu said K1 million has been allocated for awareness focusing on this new normal in the rural communities.
