TECHNICAL TEAM VISITS PROPOSED LOCATION FOR SIR PITA LUS SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

A technical team from the Department of Education visited the location of the proposed Sir Pita Lus School of Excellence at Kwari in Bumbita-Muhian LLG of Maprik District on Friday 5th July 2024. This is following the call by the People First Party Leader & Minister for International Trade and Investment, Hon. Richard Maru to the Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape and the Pangu Party to deliver a special memorial for Late Sir Pita Lus in the form of Sir Pita Lus School of Excellence at his home district of Maprik. The call was made last month during the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected Member for Maprik Open, Hon. Libert Kapris into the parliament.

Hon. Kapris said: “One of People First Party’s key policies is quality education. In our election campaign, we made a commitment to the people of Maprik that we will honor Sir Pita Lus who was a firebrand MP who represented Maprik District for three decades after political independence. He deserves to be given a recognition which is well and truly overdue. Other founding fathers have been given their recognitions and Sir Pita Lus deserves one too by building a school of excellence in his honor at his home district to be a perpetual reminder to us, the people of Maprik of the great leader that we produced in the pre-independence era.”

Hon. Kapris stated: “The day after my swearing in we met with the Secretary for Department of Education, Dr. Uke Kombra to discuss this project and now we have a technical team here from the department to visit the location of the proposed Sir Pita Lus School of Excellence. The purpose of their visit is to get the scope of work done, and they will provide us a design and the total costing for this project so we can prepare a NEC Submission for the funding for this project to be included in next year’s budget. I want to thank the Department of Education and the Secretary, Dr. Uke Kombra for sending a technical team here and I also want to thank Prime Minister Marape for his support for this instrumental project in recognition for Sir Pita Lus who was a founding member of pre-independence Pangu Party which recently celebrated its 50th annivessary. I want to assure the people of Maprik that I will give this project my highest priority and see it to be done”

Hon. Kapris added: “I want to assure my people of Maprik that despite my DDA swearing in being scheduled for later this month, work and planning for key projects in the district are well underway and we will have more key projects moving during the remaining months of this year.”
