The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has farewelled outgoing chairman Samson Wagihomie and welcomed the new acting chairman Maini Mike Ugaia, acting commissioner operations Kakaito Kasi and acting commissioner Policy Dr Charly Muke.
Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra thanked Mr Wagihomie for his 45 years of service from being the teacher to being elevated to the acting TSC chairman.
Dr Kombra presented K10,000 as the token of appreciation to Mr Wagihomie.

Mr. Kombra also welcomed the new commissioners and urged that a collaborative effort to address teachers’ welfare and ensuring teachers remained in their classrooms to teach.
He added that with 70,000 teachers serving throughout the country, TSC must ensure their welfare and work issues were catered for.
Education Minister Lucas Dekena acknowledged Mr Wagihomie for his loyal and dedicated services through his years of service and highlighted the appointment of the new acting commissioners as a restructure in the TSC to ensure the obligated duties are executed effectively going forward.
“Mr Wagihomie, thank you for all you have done for our teachers and the education system in the country,” he said.
Mr Dekena also welcomed the new commissioners and urged them to ensure the teaching profession remained a cornerstone of the public service.
“Teachers are very important people and if there is a need for teachers to be nurtured in a better institution around the world it must be done to make sure they produce quality results,” Minister Dekena said.
Mr Ugaia thanked the Marape-Rosso Government for the trust in appointing the new commissioners and said they were to deliver on their mandated duties.
He pledged his allegiance to the TSC and the teachers around the country that he and his two commissioners would do their best.
Mr Ugaia appealed Minister Dekena for funding support, saying TSC have struggled in the past 50 years due to lack of funds.
As a token of appreciation, Mr Ugaia presented a support vehicle to Mr Wagihomie.
