THE prolonging of the University of Papua New Guinea 66th graduation ceremony continues as the university council is yet to meet and discuss the matter.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic measures the graduation ceremony which was scheduled to be hosted in the month of April 2021 was however being delayed for indefinite period of time.

UPNG Vice Chancellor Professor Frank Keith Griffin (pictured above) told The PNG Bulletin that despite the relaxation of Covid-19 control measures by the controller David Manning, UPNG graduation “is an issue that still needs to be deliberately discussed at the council level.”

“The relaxation of Covid-19 conditions and the control mechanism, we still have to discuss this issue of graduation at the council level and whatever the decision is, we will then be able to make the announcement at the appropriate time,” Griffin said.

He said at the moment the council has not yet met and though as a Vice-Chancellor he cannot assure anything regarding the matter.

Professor Griffin made this known when asked by The PNG Bulletin about the matter yesterday during the opening of a new residential hall at UPNG Waigani campus.

  1. what about the 66th graduation lists?
can you guise release the graduation lists for 66th graduation so that we can be prepared for the event. Most of the parents and the students are willing to see the confirm graduation list so can be released if all are cleared at you end.

  2. We are still confused, when schools in NCD are having their normal classes. There are hundreds of students attending schools (primary, secondary, elementary, colleges etc) travelling on PMV buses every week, not strictly following the C-19 measures.
With that, recently a lot of C-19 restrictions and measures are being relaxed. This 66th graduation is an one day event and that can be easily controlled. The school council needs to discuss and establish the graduation date.
We need to graduate and move on, this delaying is really disrupting us.
