THE Government of Vanuatu has presented a piece of land as an independence gift to Papua New Guinea to build an embassy in its capital, Port Vila.

Vanuatu’s Deputy Prime Minister Johnny Koanapo and his Minister for the Lands came to celebrate PNG’s 59th Independence Anniversary and presented the land title as a gift to the people of PNG.

“We’re here together and we’re presenting this as a gift in recognition of our lasting friendship,” Deputy PM Koanapo said.

He added that his country was grateful for PNG’s past assistance  and support to Vanuatu.

“On behalf of my government, we want to express our congratulations on your 50th anniversary of independence,” Mr Koanapo said.
