POLICE this morning retrieved a stolen vehicle and found three live ammunition with a home-made gun after a chase at Erima in Port Moresby.
Acting Assistant commissioner of Police NCD/Central Command Peter Guinness revealed this today while giving an update on the security operations that is currently underway within the precincts of the National Parliament.
“Three male suspects were apprehended, one shot after he tried to escape, however, he has been stabilised by the health officers of St Johns ambulance.
“All three suspects are currently in police custody awaiting to be processed,” ACP Guinness said.
He said the stolen vehicle, a Toyota Harrier, was reportedly stolen at 9-mile yesterday in the Moresby North-East electorate.
ACP Guinness clarified that the retrieving and hold-up is an isolated incident not relating to the current political development.
Meanwhile, Gunness said situation as of this morning was quite as members of parliament resume parliament at 2pm without any form of disturbance.
“Our joint task force team has been out on the strategic locations early this morning according to our operation plan to maintain normalcy and provide security.
“I would like to also use this opportunity to address the concern raised by parents and schools on the uncertainty ahead during this political development.
“Yes, in our briefing with the taskforce team (police and defence personnel), we have considered all factors including schools and students at this time.
“We have concluded that it is the prerogative of parents to choose the best option as parents having rights for their children safety and the children right to have access to education.
“For police it is our duty and responsibility to ensure that people move freely in safe and secured environment,” ACP Guinness said.
