Yangoru-Saussia has new procurement board

THE National Procurement Commission board on Friday has sworn in the new board members of the Yangoru-Saussia District Procurement Board of East Sepik province.

This now means that NPC has officially given their mandate to the Yangoru-Saussia District Procurement Committee members to carry out the functions of procuring goods and services for the district.

The new YS Procurement Board is made of two ex-officio members who are Jacob Yafai (District CEO), David Manil (District Finance Manager), and none ex-officio members Geoffery Wafi (Community representative), Lucy Gavalalu Silam (Womens Rep) and Kevin Hembehoie (Justice, Law & Order rep).

NPC Chairman Kenneth Thomson when handing over the NPC common seal to Mr YafaI said the Yangoru Saussia-District Procurement Committee now has the power to function the roles of NPC.

Mr Thomson said prior to that arrangement, districts were only allowed to procure under K500,000.00 threshold, however with this swearing in ceremony Yangoru-Saussia can be able to procure goods and service within K2.5 million thresholds.

Mr Thomson said the procurement committee set up at provincial and district level is basically to help speed up the procurement of goods and service delivery to the rural areas where bulk of the population resides.

He said the Yangoru-Saussia MP Richard Maru has done a lot of good work for his district and with the establishment of the district procurement committee more can be achieved.

Yangoru-Saussia MP and Parliamentary Leader of the Peoples First Party Richard Maru thanked the National Procurement Commission for finally given the powers to the Yangoru-Saussia District Procurement Committee.

CEO of NPC Simon Bole thanked Mr Maru for his presence during the swearing in ceremony.

He urged the committee members to follow the NPC Act to guide them in awarding of contracts when procuring goods and service.
