THE Hunters have recorded another win against the visiting Queensland Capras at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
It was a tough game for both teams as they tested their defense.
The Capras were fortunate to score the first try, with Lachlan Hunter crossing the line at 26 minutes after strong play from both sides, though the conversion was unsuccessful. The Capras led with 4 points.
Alex Max broke through a gap in the opposing team’s defense, bringing the try line within reach. This set up Hunters’ hooker, who scored a try in the 18th minute.
Jamie Mavoko successfully converted the goal, giving the Hunters a lead.
Not long after, the Hunters pushed into the Capras’ territory again.
Judah Rimbu provided an assist to Joshua Lau, who scored a try. The teamwork displayed by the Hunters was exceptional, as evidenced by the wild reaction from the crowd when Joshua scored. Alex Max then made a spectacular run, dismantling three defenders to extend the Hunters’ lead to 16 points. Mavoko’s conversion was successful, leaving the Hunters ahead 18-4.
The Capras responded with another try by Robert Jennings, and a successful conversion by Black Moore brought the score to 18-10 at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, Wallentine Richard was knocked out for an HIA, but this didn’t deter the Hunters. Sanny Wabo made a powerful run, breaking the Capras’ defense and setting up Brandon Nima, who scored from the left corner. Mavoko converted, bringing the score to 24-10.
The Capras fought back with a try by Tom Farr and a converted goal, raising their score to 16. However, Joshua Lau soon scored another try for the Hunters, with Mavoko converting for a 30-16 lead.
The Capras scored again with a try and a converted goal, bringing the score to 22-30. But the Hunters quickly responded, with Wallentine Richard racing through the defense to score. Mavoko converted again, making it 36-22.
Six minutes before full time, Joshua Lau scored again with a brilliant play, and Mavoko’s successful conversion brought the score to 42-22. The Capras managed one final try and a successful conversion, ending the game with the Hunters victorious at 42-28.
