THE Hunters electric full back and 2023 rookie of the year Morea Morea Jnr (pictured) is looking at reclaiming the Hunters Jersey after returning from train and trial season with North Queensland Cowboys in Australia.
Morea Morea who spoke to the media this week said he is looking at returning to the full back position this year, however, he will have to work hard to take it from Sanny Wabo who was the perfect fit for the position last year.
He said he learnt a lot from the preseason with the Cowboys and he is ready to make a brilliant come back.
“It was a good experience for me down there working with the NRL players,” Morea said.
“I was a bit excited but I tried to learn a lot of things, especially in communication,” he said.
“Going out there had helped me communicating a lot better, including attacking and defense as well and how professional they are,” Morea said.
He said his experience at the Cowboys preseason was an exciting one as he rubbed shoulders with some of the best NRL players who have helped him on coping up with the trainings.
Having effective communication with players like Scott Drink water and others was a boost for him as he explained how it meant to be among them when he only sees them on the TV.
Morea Morea was not the only Papua New Guinean player in the preseason with the North Queensland Cowboys.
Jimmy N’Gutlik, Robert Derby and Jack Laybut were also in the preseason.
“They are at that level so they really helped me a lot, especially in communicating.” he said.
Morea Morea Jnr’s skills and communication level has been elevated to a whole new level and he is looking at using what he had learnt to contribute to the Hunters this year.
Now he is faced with one challenge and that is to work hard towards claiming the Number one jersey again.
“Definitely this year, I am really looking forward for competing for the Number one jersey. Sanny obviously owned it last year,” he said.
Despite competing for the Number one jersey, Morea said that the bond between them as team mates and brothers is very strong.
“People think we do not get well but we do get really well,” he said.
Morea Morea is looking at completing the preseason and win a spot into Aiton’s 30-man squad with a successful season as he is well and ready.
