THE Netball PNG would like to thank Australian Government through Netball Australia and DFAT for the AusSports Performance preparation ahead of the Pacific Netball Series (PNS).The PNG Pepes left the country on 12th October, 2022 and arrived safely in Sunshine Coast in preparation for PNS Games through AusSports High Performance Programme. Despite going down to four Pacific sister teams they are grateful for the opportunity.PNG Netball President Ulato Ovei expressed that PNG needs to improve with smart play backed up by a strong-willed fighting spirit. Her main aim is to see the margins narrowed acceptably and she has no doubt, this can be achieved. ‘Yes, we now have the resources thru the NA Programmes, but venue definitely has been a concern. Its high time now to discuss a plan for proper implementation. With many of our older and experienced players phasing out now, it’s clearly understood, goals aren’t achieved overnight but one thing for sure PNG Pepes will be one of the most successful Pacific Team in time once the plans are in place and processes outlined strategically,” Ulato stated.Pepes went down in their opener on 16th October, against USC Thunder 60-47 in a heated netball match followed by a 45-83 defeat in the hands of the mighty hands of Tonga on Monday. PNG could not find the foundation to re-surface as Samoans sunk the ladies further down with 63-38 on Tuesday. It was a fair game but minor handling errors and play error cost PNG the game. The Fijian ladies all came hard and triumph over Pepes on Wednesday with 46-67 score line. It was a close game with PNG leading in the opening minutes however, due to repeated errors gave the game away to Fiji. The games have given PNG a good test to prepare for the Pacific Netball Series.
