By GABRIEL KATUHO

THE newly appointed chairman and board of the Port Moresby Rugby League (POMRFL) is looking at restoring the rugby league to its former glory.

Chairman Honk Nelson Kiap said for 11 years POMRFL has faced numerous challenges including welfare concerns for clubs and other unresolved issues other areas that needed to be addressed were not taken into seriously.

He made this announcement today after being elected by the Port Moresby Rugby League representatives in Port Moresby yesterday.

As its first priority, the newly formed board plans to develop a business plan to guide the league’s operations moving forward. A board meeting will be convened soon to address key operational matters.

Kiap added that POMRFL which is known for the nurturing talents and marketing them overseas has lost its reputation.

“It is sad to see that the reputation of Port Moresby Rugby League been diminished over the years. Other centers have improved while Port Moresby has trailed over the 11 years,” he said.

“There are lot of administrative issue but we don’t to deal with those issues. The new board will meet and identify those outstanding issues and find the best way forward in resolving those issues.”

Mr. Kiap outlined several pressing issues including unpaid referees and linesman, outstanding depts owed to service providers such as PNG Power and Water PNG and other administrative shortcomings.

He thanked delegations and Port Moresby Rugby League representatives for having the confidence in his leadership.

He assured that there will be an open-door policy where queries of the clubs will be openly discussed and resolved.

• Chairman – Honk Nelson Kiap
• Senior Vice President – Ronnie Titie Jnr
