NFS to host National School Rugby League championship

KUMUL Petroleum National School Rugby League (NSRL) championship scheduled to kick off yesterday at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby has been re-scheduled to tomorrow.

Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) president Stanley Hondina clarified that the delay is due to tight travelling scheduled to book flights to get the players from other regions into Port Moresby.

Hondina expressed this in a statement that the deferral was “beyond our control” however all is set for Wednesday kick off at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

“We are flying in students from around the country and airlines have been fully booked since last week. Many people pre booked flights for the Independence weekend to travel home; hence we could not get all the students to travel into Port Moresby at one time.

“The draws remain with the Under 14 Boys Kumul Petroleum National Championships set to kick off on Wednesday September 22, 2021. On Thursday the Under 16 Boys will take the field, Friday will see the Under 18 Boys and on Saturday the Under 18 Open Girls,” Hondina said.

He added that all the Under 14 to Under 18 Boys and Girls travelling in from Highlands, Northern and New Guinea Islands Confederates are now booked to travel into Port Moresby and their return flights secured.

The extra two days Monday September 20 and Tuesday September 21, 2021 will be used to organize the venue.

 “The PA systems, the big screen showing time and scores will be set up. The Juniors will experience playing at a world class stadium with dressing rooms facilities and all,” said Hondina.

The NSRL championship will see teams comprising of students from all around the country and is an exposer for the young talents and the future of rugby league in the country. Spectators are allowed with gate fees selling at K2. 00 for students with ID and K5.00 for adults.

PNGNFL president Hondina also expressed his appreciation to the Kumul Petroleum for their support towards NSRL championship.
