THE representatives from the four regions including PNG Olympic Committee have strongly recommended for the deferral of the PNG Games.
In their meeting with other members in Port Moresby, they recommended to the PNG Games Council for deferral to November 22, 2022.
This would be second deferral for the PNG Games after its bid in 2017 in Kimbe. The first deferral was in 2019 due to the uprising of law and order in Southern Highlands, then to 2021 this year but now the third would be in 2022.
According to a PNG Games insider, the executive committee wants the deferral due to incomplete venues at the host districts in Ialibu (indoor complex), Kagua (soccer) and Nipa (basketball venues) will not be ready on time.
Attempt to contact PNG Games Council chairman Micah James and his deputy Joe Boino was unsuccessful.
However, the chairman of the PNG Games Organising Committee Sape Molumi is optimistic that everything would be ready for the Games this year.
He said he wants full cooperation from PNG Sports Foundation and all other stakeholders to work in togetherness to achieve the dream to deliver the games.
But he would really want to see game go ahead but it will depend on the final call by the PNG Games Council.
