THE Gulf Netball Association is set to host the Lady Rosemary Haiveta Tournament, with final preparations now complete.
Originally scheduled for August 26-30, the dates have been adjusted to August 19-22 to allow players selected during the tournament to prepare for the National Netball Championships in Lae this September.
Gulf Provincial Netball Association (GPNA) President Marsha Sireh shared that the weeks leading up to the tournament have been hectic and challenging, but they are finally nearing the finish line.
“Our biggest hurdle was funding. We’ve reached out to numerous organizations for assistance and remain hopeful that support will come through,” Sireh said.
She expressed gratitude to the Community Development Office and the Gulf Provincial Sports Trust for stepping in to support the tournament.
“A total of 19 teams have confirmed their participation. Teams are coming from Iokea, Miaru, Lese, Karama, Mupa, and the hosts, Central Kerema. We are still hopeful that a team from West Kerema will join us, and we’ve already sent word through their District Office,” she added.
Sireh also acknowledged the support of the PNG Sports Foundation and the PNG Netball Federation for providing the technical assistance needed to host the event successfully.
