By CHARLIE DUMAVI

OCEANIA Fights Promotions (OFP) is ready to set the ring for the Papua New Guinea light weight champion to take on his Philippines opponent this Sunday April 25, 2021 in a World Boxing Association (WBA), Asia title fight.

The prolonging of WBA, Asia super featherweight fight between PNG light weights champion Raka Kauko Junior and Philippines international Roldan Aldea is finally over with approval from the Controller David Manning. Both fighters are now set to decide in the ring who will be the best in the Asia region to claim the WBA, Asia belt.

Roldan Aldea ‘the cobra’ arrived in the country with his fighting contingent from Philippines two weeks ago and was under self-isolation as per the Covid-19 protocol at Sanctuary Hotel. The team is now cleared and Roldan cannot wait to get into the ring for this fight.

“I have trained for so long for this fight since last year and I am ready and so excited for this fight. I can’t wait to fight,” Roldan said.

He said it is an opportunity and he thanked the OFP, PNG Boxing council and the ambassador of Philippines to PNG for working together and allowing this fight to happen.

Local PNG Light weight champion Raka Kauko Junior welcomes his opponent to the country and thanked everyone behind him to prepare for this challenge.

“My word to you all is, come over and support on Sunday and we will hold this belt in the country,” Raka said.

Moreover, the weighing of the fighters will be done 24 hours prior to the actual fights on Saturday April 24, 2021.

There will be a total of eight fights leading up to the WBA, Asia super featherweight title fight as the grand event for the night. The event will start at 7pm and go on till late. The fights will be officiated by WBA, Asia officials who are also in the country for the event.

Sir John Guise Indoor complex will host a very exciting fighting sport night for the Port Moresby residents to enjoy.
