LEG three of the Rigo Rice Rugby League Tournament is scheduled for a kickoff by 15 March 2025.
CEO of the inaugural KCK Rigo Rice Cup Tournament in National Capital District Mcsteve Polly has announced that the third leg of this competition is set to kick off on the 15th of March and will continue over a six-week period.
Mr. Polly made this announcement from a one week break after the completion of two successful legs which started in November 2023 and ended in February 23rd 2024.
Polly emphasized on the competition’s vision, underscoring Rigo Rice Cup’s complementary operation to the PNG NRL Bid, which profoundly focuses on the development of young and energetic talents who will be eligible in time to be prepared and considered in the 2028 NRL franchise.
He added that the Rigo Rice Cup initiative was a rugby league development pathway platform designed to stage ambitious talents aging from 16 – 23, by giving them an avenue to showcase their capacities, skills, and talents in the sport.
“The Rigo Rice Cup’s momentum exceeded expectations in the nation’s capital, with teams and players satisfied after participating, which resulted in less violence and invasions, setting an impressive precedence within its first edition in four months.”
“In correspondence to our primary objective, the ultimate goal of this tourney is about advertising, branding and exclusive marketing of Papua New Guinea’s locally farmed and produced, Rigo Rice, through the rugby league platform in this country.”
Mr. Polly further clarified that speculations pertaining to political intentions within the nation’s capital in contradiction to this grassroots rugby league cup is falsified, lame, unsubstantiated and ill-conceived from selfish individuals.
He concluded that the organisers look forward towards delivering the third leg on an high note, and a special announcement for leg four will be made known soon as they work towards completing this tourney without clashes with the country’s national rugby league schedule.
