PAPUA New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) in partnership with Trukai industries has launched the annual Trukai fun run T-shirts sales to raise funds for the PNG athletes to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The launching took place today at Airways Hotel particularly to sell out a total of 65,000 shirts that were pre-ordered by the corporate sectors. All the money from the sales of shirts will go towards funding the team PNG in the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
PNGOC president Sir John Dawanincura said despite the interruptions of sporting activities including the 2020 and 2021 Trukai fun run the launching is timely to raise funds for team PNG.
“We are delighted with the launch of the shirts because it will help us with the appeal to the corporate sectors to purchase them. It is a difficult tasks this year because there is no events to tag on to but we still need to raise funds to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“Every Athlete has a dream and the pinnacle of the dream is to participate in the Olympic Games and our vision is to win a medal. We have to aim high and we have a vision to win an Olympic medal, bronze medal would be good enough. The trukai T-shirt sales has been helping us in achieving this dream,” Sir John said.
Trukai industries marketing manager Marryanne Tom said at the Launching that the company is always happy to support Team PNG, unfortunately Covid-19 has caused the cancellation of 2020 and 2021 Trukai fun run. However, Trukai industries are working closely with PNGOC to send team PNG to the Olympics Games in Tokyo.
“Trukai Industries has been the major sponsor for the fun run for 22 years and today we want to urge everyone to support team PNG to send them to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
When you purchase the K10.00 shirt the money goes to supporting Team PNG,” Marryanne said.
She said the Trukai industries through fun run has been sponsoring Team PNG to various games organized around the world over 22 years.
Representing PNG athletes Dika Toua appreciated the continuous support from Trukai Industries over 22 years.
“We have been long waiting for this Olympic Games and we are very eager, so I appeal to the general public of PNG to purchase a T-shirt. Once you purchase a T-shirt and wear it you will be part of us in spirit in Toyo,” Toua said.
Moreover, currently the sports facilities particularly Rita Flyn and Taurama aquatic center are used for Covid-19 pandemic purposes and the PNGOC are in talks with the Sports Ministry to find a way for the athletes to prepare for the Olympics Games in Tokyo.
