A locally produced feature film called the Plesman, produced by the Jona Film Production has received a timely support from the National Cultural Commission.
The National Cultural Commission presented a K10,000 cheque to Jona Film Production for the screening of the film Plesman on Monday in Port Moresby.
Executive Manager for Festivals, Marketing, Cultural and Arts industry development, MrDavid Taim on behalf of the Executive Director Mr Steven Enomb Kilanda announced NCC’s support (sponsorship) to the Jona Film Production for the film Plesman.
Mr David Taim explained that NCC’s is interested and keen to support locally produced feature films is because under the Government Medium Term Development Strategy 1.7 (MTDS); the government has put priority for PNG to produce 20 feature films by 2027.
“So far, from the National Cultural Commission point of view, we have supported the production of two feature films; The Black Python and Papa Buka and today, we are happy once again to support the film Plesman, produced by Jona Film Production, a locally based film production company based in Lae, Morobe Province,” he said.
NCC is taking keen interest to support the production of local films as it is NCC’s mandated function to promote arts and culture through film. Therefore, the support to Joan Film Production is inline with our function to assist, promote and distribute films in Papua New Guinea.
“NCC is very happy to support Jona Film Production because that film Plesman it carries very important messages to help drive PNG’s development aspirations, supporting our youths and addressing some of the social issues in the communities and societies,” added Mr Taim.
National Cultural Commission will be reaching out to stakeholders to support the screening of the film Plesman, produced by Jona Film Production.
Jona Film Production Director Mr Ramanathan Undiapah expressed his gratitude for the National Cultural Commission for stepping in as one of the first sponsors for the screening of the film Plesman.
Mr Undiapah said the target audience of the movie or film is the rural populace and to drive the message across towns, and cities address tribal conflicts in society.
“The main reason behind the production of this movie Plesman is to bring the message and awareness across the unemployed youths and majority of the people living in the rural communities to focus on agriculture cultivating the land.
The film Plesman was launched at Paradise Cinema in July, early this year and its 100 per cent locally produced with all actors and shootings of the film was done in PNG. The film Plasman will also be aired by the Digicel TV Wan and the part two of the Plesman II will be filmed next year.
