Trainees urged to be experts

OK Tedi Mining Limited (OMTL) executive leadership team has welcomed 43 trainees under the 2023 OTML Apprenticeship Programme and the OTML Preferred Area Development Training Programme during a welcome session in Tabubil on October 16.

Of the 43 trainees, 22 were recruited under the apprenticeship programme, while 21 local trainees were recruited under the PAD programme.

General Manager (Engineering, Infrastructure & Projects) Franz Hemetsberger challenged the trainees to grasp the opportunity and aspire to become the best in their fields.

“You join a group of elites and are one of the fortunate few in the country that were selected to join the OTML programmes – so build your skills and make the most out of,” he said.

“PNG needs experts in many fields.

“Give your best during your years of training.”

The apprentices will undergo a four-year training programme while the PAD trainees will go through a 2–3-year training programme depending on their fields.

The apprentice trainees’ trade disciplines include electrical, metal fabrication & welding, mechanical fitting & maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, instrumentation, heavy equipment fitting, auto-electrical and the refrigeration & air-conditioning.

The PAD trainee’s disciplines are plant process operations, competency-based training, power operations, business studies, fire rescue and load management.
