MENDI MURUKS GETS K500,000 SUPPORT FROM SHPG

By ZEBEDEE KUMPIO

THE Southern Highlands Provincial Government (SHPG) through the acting Provincial Administrator, Mr David Kelma, has presented a cheque of K500, 000 to the PRK Mendi Muruks Rugby League Club at the Holiday Inn Hotel last Saturday.

The sponsorship is part of the provincial government’s support to the provincial rugby team under the leadership of Governor William Powi.

Mr Kelma said SHPG will continue to support the provincial team going forward and urged all local district members from the province to support the team.

“Muruks is our flagship team, and the provincial government has been supporting it and will always do moving forward,” he said.

The acting Provincial Administrator also mentioned the provincial government’s support towards the Tente Rugby League field in Mendi.

He said the provincial government has made funding available to ensure the field is completed before 2025 Digicel Cup season starts.

“We want the Mendi Muruks to be based in the province and have their home games played in the province,” Mr Kelma said.

“That is why we are preparing the Tente Rugby field, and funds have already been made available.

“Going forward, we can look at ways to support our local leagues back in the province so that we have a pool of players to choose from when it comes to selection for our provincial team.”

Mendi Muruks board member Mr Demian Tegi thanked the provincial government for their continuous support to the team.

“This funding is timely to support us for the remainder of the season, and we appreciate SHPG and Governor Powi for always supporting the team,” Mr Tegi said.
