PAPUA New Guinea Kickboxing Federation (PNGKBF) president, Stanley Nandex, said PNGKBF is looking at developing young fighters in early age to meet the professional and international standard.
While looking at engaging fighters in the professional body like K-ONE, Mr Nandex said age is one of the requirements that is strictly considered for the fight.
The president said he has looked beyond the future of the code in the country and looking at developing young fighters.
Nandex made this known while presenting affiliation certificates to four provincial clubs yesterday in Port Moresby.
“Today we have the short presentation that we will be giving,” he said.
“On the other side the selection for the last eight man standing, because of the requirements and standards of the professional body like K-ONE, requirements are different.”
“One of the saddest parts will be most of the fighters will be missing out in this tour because of the age-to-age ratio, in terms of professional engagements that is about 18 to 26 in age,” Nadex said.
He is also looking at turning most of the armature fighters into professionals in preparation for the international engagements.
“By allowing some of this kind of programs to go through those provinces and clubs, it’s important that we develop young fighters, young man and women within the school so that we can turn them pro quickly.
“It’s better to work with those affiliated clubs so we can quickly identify fighters within those areas so that we could develop them.”
