MEDIA STATEMENT
The Katiloma Primary School located in Sugu Valley in rural Kagua LLG of the Kagua Erave District in Southern Highlands Province have received a total of 24 book cartoons today.
This was made possible after one of it’s teachers Flixson Timothy made special request to NBC ENGA Journalist In Charge Emmanuel Eralia. The request was submitted to Ferman Mombu, a young man who volunteers and supply library books to schools in the province through the BOOK 4 PNG KIDS organisation all the way from Australia.
Both Eralia and Mombu have started little initiatives to support schools in their respective Districts of Imbonggu and Kagua Erave and this is an initiative under this. This is done as a charity work with no funding but little support from like minded individuals.
The main purpose of it is to boost students learning in the rural schools, build their vocabulary and enhance their reading and comprehension skills.
“Sugu Valley was severely destroyed by a tribal fight almost 5 years ago, and the donation was an important one to give second chance to the kids through education. I believe it will make difference and one day the Valley will blossom again with educated people,change and a path to prosperity. Many times we undestimate the power of education so we don’t give little support but it needs strong collaboration from everyone,”said Eralia.
The books were received by Anglican Missionary and BOM Chairman Stephen Gregg, Headmaster Danny Raifa and Mr. Flixon Timothy.
The formal presentation will be done by in Katiloma School grounds next week Friday before the student can use it.
