MEMBER for Namatanai and Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Walter Schnaubelt, continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing education within his electorate.
In a recent electoral visit to West Coast Sentral to officially open Komalabuo Elementary School’s new double classroom in ward 16 and a teacher’s house at Dampet Primary School in ward 17 of Sentral Niu Ailan LLG, Schnaubelt emphasized the critical role that education plays in community development and individual empowerment.
“Education is key because an educated populace contributes positively to society as a whole,” he said.
“If we don’t prioritise our children’s education, West Coast Sentral’s future will be doomed,” Schnaubelt stressed.
Recognizing that education is not solely the responsibility of government but also involves community engagement, he urged school boards, parents and citizens to work together to develop better school infrastructure and learning facilities to harness the much-needed quality of education for their children.
Schnaubelt further emphasized the importance of nurturing future leaders through quality education and has encouraged teachers to elevate their standards and take pride in their roles as educators.
He committed a total of K307, 000 respectively to three schools in the constituency which include Komalabuo Elementary (K5, 000), Dampet Elementary (K2, 000), Kono Primary School (K150, 000) and Dampet Primary (K150, 000).
The MP also revealed that Namatanai district and New Ireland as a whole will for the first time have a teacher’s college at Kimidan in the Sentral Niu Ailan LLG.
He said preparations are currently underway for the construction to begin at a cost of K2.6 million funded by Namatanai DDA.
Schnaubelt’s approach to education in Namatanai is characterized by substantial investments in school facilities, strong community partnerships, financial support for local schools, and an overarching commitment to holistic development aimed at empowering future generations.
Meanwhile, in a bid to empower local families by enabling them to extend productive hours for various activities such as studying, farming, and small business operations, he distributed 100 solar lights for wards 17 and 18.
The MP’s electoral visit was accompanied by Namatanai District Education Advisor Chris Orim, Namatanai LLG President Joshua Takin Soi, LLG representatives, ward members and the staff from the office of the MP.
