DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER JOHN ROSSO STRENGTHENS COLLABORATION WITH INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES FOR NATIONAL SECURITY

Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso is taking significant steps to enhance the collaboration and effectiveness of Papua New Guinea’s intelligence agencies in safeguarding the nation’s
security and stability.

Recognizing the critical role that intelligence plays in addressing emerging threats, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso has prioritized working closely with the country’s intelligence community to strengthen national security frameworks and ensure the safety of all Papua New Guineans.

In recent months, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso has held several high-level meetings with key leaders and representatives from various intelligence agencies, including
the National Intelligence Organization (NIO), National Statistical Office, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary’s(RPNGC) Intelligence Unit, and other relevant security stakeholders.

“My focus is on improving inter-agency coordination, enhancing information sharing, and bolstering the overall capacity of the intelligence community to respond to both
domestic and international threats, this has never been done before.” Deputy Prime Minister Rosso said. “National security is a top priority for this government, and we must ensure that our intelligence agencies are equipped and empowered to protect our nation. They have been left to deteriorate over the years.” Deputy Prime Minister Rosso
explained.
As part of this initiative, Deputy Prime Minister Rosso is advocating for increased resources and training for intelligence personnel, recognizing that a well-supported and
skilled workforce is essential for the effectiveness of these agencies.

“We are working to create a more integrated and proactive intelligence framework that can effectively address challenges such as organized crime, cyber threats, and potential threats
to our sovereignty.” Deputy Prime Minister Rosso said.

He is also pushing for the adoption of advanced technology and data analysis tools to enhance the capabilities of intelligence operations in PNG.

Moreover, the Deputy Prime Minister is committed to fostering greater transparency and accountability within the intelligence community. By establishing clear oversight mechanisms and ensuring that intelligence activities are conducted within the
bounds of the law, the government aims to build public trust and confidence in these critical institutions.

The collaboration with intelligence agencies also extends to strengthening partnerships with international allies. Deputy Prime Minister Rosso has been engaged in discussions with
foreign counterparts to enhance cooperation on intelligence sharing and to better address transnational threats such as terrorism, human trafficking, and illicit trade.

Through these ongoing efforts, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso and the intelligence community are working hand-in- hand to address the complex challenges facing Papua New
Guinea today and in the future.

“Our intelligence agencies are the frontline in protecting our nation’s security, and it is our duty to support them in every possible way, together, we are building a safer, more secure
Papua New Guinea for all our citizens.” Concluded Deputy
