DEPUTY Prime Minister and Member for Lae, Hon. John Rosso, has continued his support to the Correctional Services with an assistance of critical emergency supplies to the Buimo facility in Lae, last week.
This latest contribution underscores his long-standing commitment to the welfare of both the staff and the inmates at Buimo prison.
In a gesture aimed at alleviating some of the immediate challenges faced by the CIS at Buimo, the assistance includes essential food and hygiene supplies.
Deputy Prime Minister Rosso explained that these items are intended to support the daily operations of the facility while his office, Correctional Services and Treasury process funding arrangements for the Buimo facility.
Deputy Prime Minister Rosso emphasized the importance of supporting Correctional Services, noting that the well-being of those within the prison system is a reflection of the broader community’s commitment to justice and rehabilitation.
“Our Correctional Services play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, and it’s our duty to ensure they have the resources they need to carry out their responsibilities effectively.” said Deputy Prime Minister Rosso.
This recent assistance is part of a series of initiatives by Deputy Prime Minister Rosso to improve conditions at Buimo prison. His ongoing efforts have included advocating for better infrastructure, supporting staff training programs, purchasing of vehicles, and facilitating partnerships with local organizations to enhance rehabilitation services such as inmates helping in beautifying the city of Lae.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that he will support the Buimo Correctional Services staff and inmates for their Independence commemoration program.
