Police Ordered to Maintain Peace During Vote of No Confidence

Approved Media Release

ASSISTANT Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Highlands Eastern End Command, Clement Dalla, has directed all officers under his command to ensure peace and security during the Vote of No Confidence (VONC) scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, August 12.

ACP Dalla emphasized that the VONC is a constitutional process that must be respected by both the public and police officers.

“We are expected to maintain security and peace in our respective communities and the commands without taking sides. This is part of our mandatory obligations,” he said.

He instructed Provincial Police Commanders (PPCs) to carry out public awareness along the Highlands Highway, stretching from Chuave in Chimbu to Western Highlands, Southern Highlands, and Enga provinces. He also ordered Highway Patrol Units and Community Policing teams to engage in this awareness as a priority.

ACP Dalla warned that anyone involved in illegal activities such as roadblocks or protests would face the full force of the law, with the potential use of non-lethal force if necessary.
