PEOPLE OF WESTERN HIGHLANDS, JIWAKA, & CHIMBU PROVINCES PRAISED FOR OBSERVING INDEPENDENCE PEACEFULLY

ACTING Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Highlands Eastern, Clement Dalla has praised the people of Western Highlands, Jiwaka and Chimbu provinces for observing the Independence Weekend with peace and harmony.

Mr. Dalla commend the public for celebrating the independence in the true spirit of the nation’s 49th anniversary with respect and peace as no major criminal activities reported.

He said there were few minor incidents such as petty crimes related to drunk behavior, traffic offences and minor property damages but the police swiftly attended them.

ACP, Dalla said a flag-raising and lowering ceremony was also held in Mt. Hagen, the provincial capital which drew a decent crowd but was conducted with solemn respect. Mr. Dalla was proud of the way the celebrations unfold across the region.

“I praise the behaviors of the youths who demonstrated a considerable restraint and responsibility throughout the long weekend compared to previous years.

“Youths are the leaders of tomorrow and their conduct during the independence celebrations is a testament to their commitment to preserving the peace.

“Their responsible behavior is a promising sign that next year’s 50th Independence Anniversary- the Golden Jubilee, will be even more peaceful,” Mr. Dalla said.

He commended his police personnel for their dedication and professionalism.

The quick response from police to any reported incidents was crucial to maintaining the overall peace during the celebrations.

“I thank my officers for their tireless work during the Independence celebrations.  Their commitment vigilance and timely response were essential in ensuring a peaceful and successful celebrations across the Communities.

I also extend my gratitude to individuals, groups and organizations who actively participated in making the event as success,” Commander Dalla said, adding that he said those collective efforts were crucial to the national progress.

Mr. Dalla urged the public to continue working hand in hand with police to maintain peace, unity and respect for the rule of law as these are essential for the country’s journey towards its golden jubilee in 2025 and beyond.
