Police personnels in Manus province have not been appraised over the years, says PPC

MANUS Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Senior Inspector, Maureen Undaba says the police personnel in the province have not been appraised over the years.

PPC Undada has started appraising the officers since she took office this year, 2024. She said most of the police officers have not been appraised and they do not have annual performance appraisal forms from Police Headquarters as well.

PPC Undaba is now assessing every policeman and policewoman quarterly.  She has submitted their performance appraisal forms late, so some of the highly recommended hard-working members have missed out on the recent promotions as well.

“I am confident that the recent workshop on members performance appraisal in the province which was conducted by the members of the police Human Resources Development Division at the Police Headquarters will help the section heads appraise their members.

“We have only 45 regular members against the increasing population of an approximately 80,0000 people in the province, and the police officers need to be well trained with sufficient manpower.

“I am doing assessment of the members to develop them.  I will find sponsors to sponsor gifts for high performing officers to boost their morale in performing their duties without fear or favor,” PPC Undaba said.

PPC Undaba however said that for the third quarter statistics from July to September 2024, 621 complaints have been registered. She said from the 621 complaints, 244 arrested and 78 convictions were made.

She added that the 138 cases were settled out of court because complainants wanted them to be sorted outside of the court whilst 308 cases still pending.

PPC Undaba said that most cases remained pending due to the complaints living in the outer Islands.
