POLICE WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PERVERTING THE COURSE OF JUSTICE IN AIYE TAMBUA’S SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

A policewoman attached to the Sexual Offence Squad within the Criminal Investigation Unit has been arrested and charged for perverting the course of justice.

Acting NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang confirmed that First Constable Adriana Kamusunga was apprehended and charged by the Internal Investigation Unit on Monday.

This action followed evidence suggesting that she provided misleading information in court, leading to the dismissal of Aiye Tambua’s case while it was still ongoing.

Supt Rubiang stated that Constable Kamusunga was initially detained but was later released on K1,000 police bail.

According to the police report, on July 9, 2024, Kamusunga allegedly submitted an affidavit claiming insufficient evidence and procedural errors in the investigation, which was subsequently used in court to strike out the case.

Rubiang noted that the case was still under deliberation when Kamusunga’s statement was submitted, resulting in the dismissal of the charges against the Member of Parliament. He expressed his gratitude to the investigators for their diligent efforts, which led to Kamusunga’s arrest. She is expected to appear in court once her case files are prepared.

“I want to warn officers who do such to spoil the name of the constabulary to refrain from doing it. Let the court clear defendants if they are arrested and charged. When we are given a case to investigate, we must do it without fear or favour to make sure the victim and the complaint are satisfied. We are not the courts, but we are the law enforcement officers. I want to thank the IIU officers and the team of CID investigators who led the investigation. I hope to see the case to its full completion,” he said

Constable Kamusunga is currently released on K1,000 police bail.
