THE Kikori District Procurement Committee (KDPC) was officially sworn in last week in a ceremony held in Port Moresby.
The committee comprises the following members:
- Chairman: Mr. Jerry Hape, Acting District Administrator for Kikori District & Acting Chief Executive Officer
- Community Representative: Mr. Jacob Kairi
- Justice and Law & Order Representative: Mr. Luke Damu
- Women’s Representative: Ms. Orihae Avea
All members were appointed by the National Procurement Board under Section 77 (22) (b) of the National Procurement Act (Amendment) 2021.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by officers from the National Procurement Commission, who oversaw the proceedings and provided guidance to the committee members on their roles and responsibilities.
Also in attendance were Mr. Steven Ilave (Snr), First Secretary to the Minister for Provincial & Local Level Government Affairs and Member for Kikori, and Mr. Rex Koivi, Acting District Finance Manager.
The establishment of the KDPC empowers the district to effectively screen and approve crucial development projects.
In his remarks, KDPC Chairman Mr. Jerry Hape expressed gratitude to the National Procurement Commission for facilitating the swearing-in. He congratulated the committee members on their appointments and highlighted their valuable experience, which will be instrumental in ensuring the timely and efficient approval of development projects for the benefit of the rural communities in the district.
Mr. Hape acknowledged the challenges that may arise but expressed confidence that the guidance provided by the National Procurement Commission will be invaluable.
He conveyed the appreciation of Hon. Soroi Marepo Eoe, MP, CMG, Member for Kikori, Minister for Provincial & Local Level Government Affairs, and Acting Governor-General, for the support of the National Procurement Commission and the dedication of the appointed committee members to fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Kikori.
