THE Menyamya District Development Authority (DDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with the PNG Civil and Identity Registry (PNG CIP) today to begin the rollout of NID registration for Menyamya district.
The two parties signed the MoA today at Moale House, signalling the rollout of this important government program.
Following the MoA signing, Member for Menyamya, Hon. Soilen Loifa, contributed K220,000 to kickstart the registration process, which is set to begin immediately within the district.
Loifa expressed his gratitude to Minister for Administrative Services, Hon. Richard Masere and his administration for the opportunity to update the district’s registry, ensuring all residents are registered.
“Menyamya is a remote and challenging area, with many people unregistered,” Loifa said.
“One of the key initiatives of the DDA is to ensure that everyone in our district is accounted for,” he said.
Loifa highlighted that the registration will significantly improve district’s planning in service delivery.
He also mentioned that the MoU signed two weeks ago with Mama Bank would assist locals in accessing bank accounts with their NID cards.
“We are excited to work with the PNG Civil Registry officers to ensure every citizen of Menyamya is registered,” Loifa added.
The Menyamya MP further thanked the Minister for committing to issue first 10, 000 NID cards to the people of Menyamya, a step that has been eagerly awaited by the community.
“We look forward to presenting the NID cards to our people. Thank you for partnering with us as Menyama is ready to work alongside you to ensure that every citizen is registered,” he said.
Minister Masere commended the Menyamya district for taking proactive steps to ensure its people are properly registered.
He emphasized that the NID system will provide Menyamya residents with access to vital government services and opportunities that were previously out of reach due to their remote location.
The Minister acknowledged the challenges of bringing services to rural areas and congratulated Menyamya MP for prioritizing this initiative.
Minister Masere also congratulated Acting Registrar General for PNG CIP, Mrs. Salome Bogosia for being elevated to the position.
“I would also like to announce to the country that recently Mrs. Bogasia was
appointed as our Acting Register General,” Masere said.
He said this is the first time a female has been appointed to a very important position.
“This demonstrates the Marape-Rosso Government in equally giving opportunities to our womenfolk in the country on the gender-based equality of promoting candidates that are well vested in certain areas within government,” said Minister Masere.
He expressed confidence that her efforts would ensure the success of the program in Menyamya and other remote districts in Papua New Guinea.
