WORK ON NEW ROAD PROJECT PROGRESSING WELL

Work on the newly awarded road project from Kalabond roundabout to Gelegele/Sonoma SDA college in Kokopo in the East New Britain Province (ENBP) is currently progressing well.

Currently, the Contractor is on the lines-drains stage, which is a critical stage in which the foundations must be laid down properly. This stage would be followed by the gravel and sealing stage.

The lines-drains stage involves a lot more time and work. The Contractor will move into the next phase soon once equipment and materials are shipped to the construction site.

Giru Construction, the contractor working on the project, says equipment includes a sealing truck and bitumen drums, including pavement rollers, which are currently at the Lae Wharf awaiting shipment. The work on the sealing is expected to start in March when the construction cargo arrives, and that will see the first 5 kilometers of sealing to commence.

All civil works and/or road works are supervised by the Department of Works and Highways (DoWH) through the provincial works office in Kokopo.

The Contractor (Giru Construction) dismissed unfounded allegations leveled against it as they are aimed at falsely tarnishing the good name and character of the company.
