POM Elite Basketball (PEB) Preseason Tips Off March 5

POM Elite Basketball (PEB) is set to launch its highly anticipated 2025 pre-season games with the first match tipping off on Wednesday, March 5, at the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium (SJGIS).

The pre-season will run throughout March, paving the way for an exciting season ahead.

This year’s competition sees an increase in participation, with eight men’s teams and four confirmed women’s teams competing.

The men’s division welcomes new inclusions Mayawala, BBB, and Ultimax, joining Civpac Amessi, Tribes Coffee, Togoba Coffee, Moniplus Tamaraws, and NorthWest Wizards. Unfortunately, last year’s team ACL Kings has not confirmed their participation yet.

In the women’s division, Civpac Amessi, Tribes Coffee, Pirates, and NorthWest Wizards are locked in, with PEB still seeking two more teams to round out a six-team competition.

The preseason will run throughout March, with games scheduled every Wednesday evening, and the possibility of additional Sunday afternoon matches at SJGIS.

Fitness assessments will also be conducted independently to evaluate both physical readiness and financial stability, ensuring all teams can effectively support their players throughout the season.

Following last year’s successful season, PEB is focused on growth and development,

particularly in upskilling technical officials and securing a permanent venue. While

SJGIS remains the primary venue, PEB will alternate between SJGIS and

the Taurama Aquatic Centre (TAC) based on availability.

“As PNG gears up to celebrate 50 years of Independence, PEB is committed to engaging youth and showcasing basketball as a pathway to success. We aim to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for families and fans to experience top-tier basketball,” said a PEB representative.

PEB extends its gratitude to PNG LNG ExxonMobil, Togoba Coffee, and all team sponsors for their continued support. The league looks forward to another thrilling season of competition and development for basketball in PNG.

First preseason games:

Men’s draw only.

Game 1: 6pm Mayawala vs Tamaraws and

Game 2: 7:30pm Ultimax vs Civpac Amessi

at SJGIS

Note that all meetings will take place at 7pm at SJGIS for all teams.

Note that Women’s draw to be confirmed by this Friday 07 March, 2025.

The regular season will officially commence in April and run through until August, concluding in September before Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence celebrations.

Sponsorship and Growth

PNG LNG ExxonMobil remains the major sponsor, continuing their two-year

commitment to the league. Togoba Coffee also continues its support, and PEB

anticipates making an additional major sponsorship announcement in March.
