ON behalf of Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister James Marape has signed off the condolence book at the Vatican Embassy today, to convey the country’s sympathies on the passing Pope Francis.

“This morning on behalf of all PNG, I signed the condolence book at the Vatican Embassy on our country’s sympathies at the passing of Pope Francis,” PM Marape said.

“PNG was in his mind when he made his last tour and our country has memories of his visit last September and for that we are grateful that even at the expense of his health and well being, he remained of active service to humanity,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Marape also announced that the PNG flag will fly half mast in as a sign of respect.

“Our country’s flag will fly half mast as a sign of respect to the passing of the leader of the biggest Christian Church and the Head of the Vatican State.

“May he rest from this life! To all Catholic faithfuls in PNG, we are with you all in this moment of sadness.

“I ask those who want to sign the condolence book to visit the Vatican Embassy at Korobosea PX village to sign the condolence book.”
