Minister announces 2025 LLG Dates, calls on public servants contesting to resign

The minister for Local level government Affairs Soroi Marepo Eoe, has confirmed the dates for the 2025 Local Level government and the Motu Koitabu Assembly elections.

The confirmation of the dates has been made in accordance to the advice of the PNG electoral commission.

The key dates are as follows
 Issues of Writes is on Thursday 24th April 2025 at 4pm
 Nomination close on the Thursday 1 may 2025 at 4pm
 Polling starts on a Saturday 12th July 2025
 Return of writs is on a Thursday 22nd august 2025

Calculation of days
 Nomination period runs for 7 days from the 24th of April -1ST May 2025
 Campaign period is 80 days starting from 24th April to 11 July 2025
 Polling Period is on for 21 days starting from 12th July to 1st August 2025
 Counting period will go on for 21 days starting from 2nd to 22nd August
2025

Minister Eoe says, these dates signify the commencement of preparations for the democratic selection of leaders at the LLG levels.

“I encourage all citizens to participate actively in this important process. This process is essential for the continued empowerment of our communities and the strengthening of governance structures across Papua New Guinea,” said Eoe.

Meanwhile, Minister Eoe has also reminded all public servants who intend to contest the LLG and MKA elections to submit their resignation from the dates of this notice.

“This is in line with legal requirements and to uphold transparency and accountability”

He said, this is both a legal and ethical obligation. Compliance ensures the neutrality of our public institutions and guarantees that all candidates compete on fair and equal footing.

The upcoming LLG and MKA elections represent a vital opportunity to renew leadership at these levels. Eoe called on every concerned stakeholders to work in unity to support PNGEC in delivering a peaceful, credible and lawful elections.
