The commissioning of a new water supply system in Taurama on the 15th of November 2024 marked a significant milestone for the residents, as Water PNG took charge of the newly installed water distribution network.

This initiative was spearheaded by the Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko, and the Governor for NCD, aiming to enhance access to clean water for the community and address long-standing infrastructural challenges.

In an interview with the member of Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko highlighted the importance of the water supply project, which encompasses a comprehensive network of pipes stretching from the Taurama roundabout to Tutu Beach.

“The completion of this project is crucial for the residents of Taurama,” said MP Tkatchenko

. With the water pipes now installed, it is the responsibility of Water PNG to connect the commission system to households.

However, Tkatchenko said residents will need to pay a connection fee to access this vital resource.

“We made it very clear that this service is not free.

Water PNG will charge a nominal fee for the connection, and we encourage all residents to register their interest and pay for the connection to have water metered at their premises,” Tkatchenko emphasized.

According to Tkatchenko, the cost of this infrastructure was three million kina, a significant investment made during the time of the road construction.

“It is now up to the residents to utilize the opportunity and ensure they are connected through Water PNG,” urged Tkatchenko.
