Contractors building the Lae to Finschafen road under the Connect PNG program has withdrawn because of the Government’s failure in providing funds, Morobe Governor Luther Wenge told Parliament today.
Governor Wenge queried Works and Highways Minister Solan Mirisim during Question Time.
“When are you going to provide the money so that contractors can go back and continue to construct the road to Finschafen?
“Also, under that program the State provided the money through your department to continue the concrete road.
“The people of Lae and Finschafen are looking at the road condition and blaming me for nothing that I am not at fault,” he said.
Minister Mirisim responded: “About the contractors that withdraw, I will get an update through my Works office in Morobe and inform Minister for Mining and MP for Finschafen.
“Work is progressing slowly so I will get an update and let you know.”
