ABAU MP Sir Puka Temu has criticised the deferral of the Local Level Government (LLG) elections to September.
He raised his concern in Parliament today and asked Prime Minister James Marape to explain the deferral to the people of Papua New Guinea.
“Why did the electoral commission deferred the polling when it was about to start, candidates are complaining that they have wasted their resources,” Sir Puka asked PM Marape.
“In my view National Executive Council and its decision has massed this entire system up,” he said.
“Can the Prime Minister admit that the Government is drastically failing the people of Papua New Guinea for the mess that NEC and your Government created?”
Mr Marape responded: “I want to apologise to all the LLG candidates for unpreparedness and deferral of this election, nonetheless the election is still happening.
“To contestants. you do not need money to win your seat at the election, your leadership will ensure people will vote for you.”
He warned people not to accept payments from candidates and political parties in return for their votes.
