Tourism is booming in New Ireland; a province dubbed as the Bilas Peles welcomed one of the most influential youtuber from Africa who was received by the New Ireland community led by local businesswoman Janet Sios.

Tourism is a sleeping giant, it’s a pot of gold for this country Papua New Guinea that is unexplored, untapped and has huge economic potential both domestically and internationally.

New Ireland province treats every visitor as a special guest; They believe tourism in the province will thrive in the many years to come. Statistics have indicated that figures of visitors or travellers visiting New Ireland have increased dramatically.

Mrs Janet Sios, a prominent local businesswoman said, “Tourism is a lucrative industry untapped, and we are relishing the potential of tourism in the province.”

She was on hand at Kavieng airport to receive and welcome Diana Daisy Gau, Kenyan YouTuber or social media Influencer who went to New Ireland on 13th July 2025.

She was one of the first tourists from outside to access the newly established Frangipani tours and adventures service which was recently opened in Kavieng.

“Basically, exposing New Ireland through this social media influencer has brought the tourism potential to a next level. I know that she has been to many parts of the country, but loved New Ireland because it is becoming an interesting place for many people, including local and international tourists. So, this is an opportunity I took to bring her there and allow such an influencer to see what New Ireland has to offer. And of course she uncovered the beauty of New Ireland province,” said Mrs Sios.

She further elaborated that the beauty of Papua New Guinea is untouched and untapped.

“We have so many capabilities of entering the tourism sector which is growing significantly. In fact, we have diverse cultures from the highlands to the Coasts, from the Momase, New Guinea Islands and Southern regions. We will take over the world in terms of exposing our capabilities in tourism because we have many interesting things to show to the world,” said Mrs Sios.

“I am happy that this influencer has impacted Papua New Guinea in a positive way, and we took her to this place, and she will definitely tell everyone about Papua New Guinea,” added Mrs Sios.

Mr Apelis Benson, Chief Executive Officer for Social Sector-New Ireland Provincial administration applauded Mrs Janet Sios for setting the benchmark in the tourism space, by bringing Diana Daisy Gau to New Ireland, the bilas peles.

Mr Benson also appealed to everyone to work in collaboration and partnership using a coordinated approach to explore and market our place to come see our beautiful province, called the Bilas Peles-New Ireland.

“We will work together to create New Ireland a beautiful place for everyone to come and enjoy the true bilas peles and Pasin,” added Mr Benson.
